Deuteronomy 22:25 , 26, 27 – But if man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die: but unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour , and slayeth him, even is this matter: for he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
Thought: In the previous verse, the damsel was to be stoned. The reason is because she could have cried out against the man who laid with her, but she did not. She would have been heard because she was in the city. Here, the woman is forced against her will. Her crying out would not have saved her because the attack happened in the field. This is a plain case of rape. The attacker is to be put to death. The innocent victim has committed nothing worthy of death.
