A.    Ish-bosheth was the fourth son of Saul (I Chron. 8:33; 9:39).

 

B.      Originally, his name was Esh-baal, or, “fire of Baal.”

 

C.     His name was changed to Ish-bosheth, that is, “son of shame.”  We are not given the reason for this name change.
