JAMES 2:4

Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

 

1.    Partial

A.   Strong (1252):  to separate thoroughly, that is, …to withdraw from, or (by implica-tion) to oppose; figuratively to discriminate

B.    Thayer:  to separate, make a distinction, discriminate, to prefer…to withdraw from one, desert, to separate one’s self

C.   Vine:  to separate…translated “divide” (ASV), to be divided in one’s mind, that is, in the sense of making distinctions

 

2.    Judges

A.   Strong (2923):  a judge

B.    Thayer:  one who passes or arrogates to himself, judgment on anything

C.   Vine:  a judge

 

3.    Evil

A.   Strong (4190):  hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence)

B.    Thayer:  bad, of a bad nature or condition

C.   Vine:  evil that causes labor, pain, sorrow, malignant evil

 

4.    Thoughts

A.   Strong (1261):  discussion, that is, (internal)

B.    Thayer:  a thinking of a man deliberating with himself, a thought, inward reasoning

C.   Vine:  reasoning
