But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seat?
1. Have despised
A. Strong (818): to render infamous, that is, (by implication) contemn, maltreat
B. Thayer: to dishonor, insult, treat with contempt…whether in word, deed, or thought
C. Vine: to dishonor
2. Poor
A. Strong (4434): a beggar…that is, a pauper
B. Thayer: reduced to beggary…destitute of wealth, influence, position, honor…poor, needy
C. Vine: poor
3. Rich men
A. Strong (4145): wealthy
B. Thayer: wealthy, abounding in material resources
C. Vine: wealthy
4. Oppress
A. Strong (2616): to exercise dominion against, that is oppress
B. Thayer: to exercise harsh control over one, to use power against one, to oppress one
C. Vine: to exercise power over
5. Draw
A. Strong (1670): to drag (literally or figuratively)
B. Thayer: to draw, drag off, metaphorically, to draw by inward power, lead, impel
C. Vine: to draw to a place, forcibly, but not violently
6. Judgment seats
A. Strong (2922): a rule of judging…that is, (by implication) a tribunal
B. Thayer: a place where judgment is given, the tribunal of a judge, a bench of judges
C. Vine: a tribunal, law-court
