JAMES 3:3

Behold, we put bits in horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
1. Behold
A. Strong (2400): lo!
B. Thayer: Behold, see, lo
C. Vine: to see, calling attention to what may be seen or heard or mentally apprehended in any way…regularly rendered “behold”
2. Bit
A. Strong (5469): a curb or head stall
B. Thayer: bridle
C. Vine: a bridle…a primitive bridle was a loop on the halter-cord passed around the lower jaw of the horse
3. Horses’
A. Strong (2462): horse
B. Thayer: horse
C. Vine: horse, apart from the fifteen occurrences in the Apocalypse occurs only in James 3:3
4. Mouths
A. Strong (4750): the mouth
B. Thayer: the mouth
C. Vine: of the mouth of man
5. Obey
A. Strong (3982): to assent…to authority
B. Thayer: be persuaded…obey, yield to, comply with
C. Vine: obey…the obedience suggested is not by submission to authority, but resulting from persuasion
6. Turn about
A. Strong (846): to lead over, that is, transfer
B. Thayer: to transfer, lead over, to direct
C. Vine: to move from one side to another
7. Whole
A. Strong (3650): whole, all complete :- all, altogether, every whit, + throughout, whole
B. Thayer: all, whole, completely
C. Vine: the whole
8. Body
A. Strong (4983): the body
B. Thayer: the body of man
C. Vine: the body as a whole, instrument of life
