The Great Benefits of God

TEXT: Psalm 103:1-16

Scripture Reading v. 2-3

Introduction:

1.               Rehearse the great blessings of being a Christian.

2.               Rejoice in the lord always – there are always reasons to rejoice in the Lord.

Discussion:

L/S – One of the Great Benefits of God is…

I.                God Forgives – v. 3

A.    David –

1.     Psa 51:1-12

B.    Who forgives all our iniquities?  Only God can do that!

1.     We that have been forgiven of sin, understand just what a blessing this truly is for us.

2.     We will not have to have that held over us sometime in the future, either.

C.    Who heals our diseases – soul’s diseases?

1.     Exo 15:26 

2.     Moses reminded them that God PROMISED not to bring upon the children of Israel those diseases that he had brought upon the Egyptians.

3.     Second part dealing with the fact that God was their physician…available for all – Rom. 1:16

D.    Not only Forgiveness, but a forgetting

1.     V.8-12 – he forgets our sins when forgiven, man remembers our sins, Satan throws it up in our face –

2.     Heb 10:17

II.              God Redeems – v. 4

A.    From destruction – we are self-destructing with our lives

1.     Rom 3:24 

2.     1Co 1:30 

3.     Eph 1:7 

B.    God’s motivation was love –

1.     Joh 3:16 

2.     Rom 5:8 

C.    Acts 17:28 – this encompasses the idea of god’s loving-kindness and tender mercies.  “We are His offspring.”

1.     As a Father would take care of a son’s needs…our Father in heaven has paid our debt for us.

2.     Rom 1:14-16 

3.     We too should feel indebted to the point that we want to tell others.

L/S – One of the Great Benefits of God is…

III.            God Satisfies – v. 5

A.    Satisfies our needs.

1.     The true believer will want to praise God, b/c of the provisions and not the possessions.

2.     We should understand that God will provide for His children.

3.     Psa 37:25 

B.    Matt. 6:25-34

1.     “from moment to moment”

2.     “Take no thought of tomorrow”

C.    Phil. 4:19 - My God shall supply all our needs

D.    Therefore, thy youth is renewed – referring to our strength – we are given the strength to carry on the task before (Phil. 4:13)

Conclusion:

1.               The Great Benefits of God are Forgiveness, Redemption & Satisfaction in the Lord.

v. 14-16

2.               Man’s days are numbered – time is limited and even at its best, it’s still short!

3.               Eternal Life is the Greatest Benefit from God to man.

Joh 14:1-6 

2Co 5:1  For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

1Jn 5:11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

1Jn 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1Jn 5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
