WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A WOMAN?

Victor M. Eskew

INTRODUCTION

A.     We are living in strange times.

We are living in confusing times.

We are living in scary times.

We are living in evil times.

B.      Things that used to be considered both universal, that is, accepted all over the world, and eternal, that is, unchanging in nature, have been removed from these categories.

C.     Recently this conversation went on in a Senate confirmation hearing in Washington, D.C.

Senator Marsha Blackburn:  “Can you provide a definition of the word ‘woman’?”

Supreme Court nominee, Kentanji Brown Jackson:  “No.”

Blackburn:  “You can’t.”

Jackson:  “I can’t.  Not in this context.  I am not a biologist.”

D.     Sadly, Judge Jackson is not the only person who is unable to provide a definition of the word “woman” in our society.

1.       If you do not know what a woman is, how do you know whether you are one or not?

2.       If you want to be a woman, but you do not know what one is, how do you become one?

3.       If we do not know what a woman is, can we even know that they exist?

E.      2 Corinthians 2:11

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us:  for we are not ignorant of his devices.

1.       A device is “a thought, a perception, an idea, a cogitation, an inward reasoning.”

2.       Paul tells us that Satan is trying to pawn off his thinking within the world.

3.       When someone says:  “We cannot define the word ‘woman,’” this is a reasoning that comes straight from the depths of hell.  It is a device of Satan that is being used to move our homes, our schools, our society, and our government farther and farther away from God.

F.      Since this has become so widespread, we feel the need to discuss the subject:  “The Definition of  A Woman.”

I.                    THE SIMPLE DEFINITION

A.     When you look up the definition of the word “woman” in an Old Testament lexicon and a New Testament lexicon, the definition is “woman.”  In other words, a woman is a woman, period.

B.      Dictionaries define the word “woman” as follows:

1.       Dictionary.com:  adult female person

2.       Oxford Dictionary:  an adult female human being

C.     People do not like this simple definition.

1.       Some refer to women as “a birthing person.”

2.       Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) called women “menstruating persons.”

3.       NOTE:  These terms point solely to the sexual and reproductive aspects of women.  The term “woman” encompasses much more than this.

II.                 A CREATION OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD

A.     Bible students are very familiar with the creation of woman as recorded in Genesis 2.

B.      God created the fish and birds on Day 5 of the Creation Week.  He created the living creatures on the land on Day 6.  All of these creatures had companions suitable for them.

C.     Initially, God created Adam on Day 6.

1.       The animals had companions, but Adam did not.

2.       In Genesis 2:18, God notes that man is alone and declares that “It is not good.”

And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make an help meet for him.

3.       That same day, God did exactly that (Gen. 2:21-23).

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept:  and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof.  And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh:  she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.

a.       God made a woman and brought her unto the man.

b.      Adam called her “Woman, because she was taken out of man.”

D.     The woman is like unto the man in that she, too, is made in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:27).

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

1.       A woman is of a higher order than the animal kingdom.

2.       A woman is both a physical being and a spiritual being.

3.       A woman possesses many of the attributes of God since she is made in His image.

III.              A WOMAN IS A FEMALE

A.     The Bible teaches there are only two genders that exist:  male and female (Gen. 1:27).

…male and female created he them.

B.      When a child is conceived in the womb, two people play a part, the mother and the father.

1.       The infant has 23 pairs of chromosomes.

a.   Twenty-two are called autosomes and are arranged in decreasing order.

b.   The last pair are sexual chromosomes.

                                    1)         If the child has two X chromosomes, the child is a female.

                                    2)         If the child has and X and a Y chromosome, the child is a male.

C.     NOTE:  These chromosomes remain the same throughout a person’s entire life.   Throughout person’s life, a he is a he and a she is a she.

1.       Taking hormones does not change the chromosomes.

2.       Having a sex-change operation does not change the chromosomes.

3.       Calling someone by “another gender” (some believe there are as many as 81 that exist) does not change the chromosomes.

IV.              A WOMAN IS DISTINGUISHED BY PARTICULAR FEATURES

A.     Her physical frame (bones) is usually smaller than a man’s frame.

B.      She has larger breasts, a smaller waist, and rounder hips than a man.

C.     She has less hair on her body than a man.

D.     Her muscle mass is less than a man’s.

E.      Her heart and lungs are usually smaller than a man’s.

F.      Her chemical make-up is different:  estrogen versus testosterone.

G.     Her emotional being is usually much different than a man.

H.    “The weaker vessel” (1 Pet. 3:7)

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel…

1.       Peter was not being disrespectful.  He was stating a fact.

2.       Peter was recognizing the differences that exist between a man and a woman.

I.        This explains the superiority of transgender men who compete against women..

1.       Leah Thomas is setting records in swimming against women because he is a man.

2.       CeCe Tefler is setting records in track and field against women because he is a man.

3.       Mary Gregory is setting record in power lifting against women because he is a man.

4.       Rachel McKinnon is setting cycling records against women because he is a man.

V.                 A WOMAN IS ABLE TO BEAR CHILDREN

A.     A woman is the one who bears the egg in reproduction.

B.      When the egg is fertilized by the man, the woman bears the child in her womb through the developmental process until the child is born.

C.     The woman is the one who gives birth to the child.

D.     NOTE:  There is not one man in the pages of God’s Word who ever gave birth to a child.  It is an impossibility.

1.       Eve bore Cain and Abel (Gen. 4:1-2).

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.  And she again bare his brother Abel…

2.       When God was going to bring Jesus into the world, He did not have an angel appear to a man to announce he would have a child.  Why?  Because this was physically impossible (Luke 1:30-31).

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary:  for thou hast found favour with God.  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

E.      In our society, we are having women trying to transition and become men.

1.       They look like men.

2.       They act like men.

3.       Some of them do not have sex change operations.  Thus, they still have all of their female reproductive parts.  They will give birth to a child, and some in our world will say that a man gave birth to a child.  NOT SO!  Only a woman can give birth to a child.  The very moment a trans-woman gives birth to a child, she tells the world, I am still a woman!

CONCLUSION

A.     I don’t know about any of you, but I am growing very weary of all of the lies and deceptions being exerted upon our society.

B.      It is high time that we, God’s children, rise up and call for a halt to the non-sense.

C.     If we do not, we will find out society becoming much like the Sodom and Gomorrah of Abraham’s day.

1.       “But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly” (Gen. 13:13).

2.       “…Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous” (Gen. 18:20).
