Heaven Will Surely Be Worth It All

I.                Introduction

A.    There is a hymn often sung entitled, “Heaven will surely be worth it all”

                                                    i.     The purpose of this lesson is to remind ourselves of why this statement is so true

B.    Many times we think of Heaven without any depth and meditation

C.    Only when we truly begin to fathom the Biblical description of Heaven can we long to be there

                                                    i.     Consider 7 reasons why Heaven will be worth it all

II.              Heaven is joy (Isaiah 65:17-19, cf. Revelation 21:4-5)

A.    Heaven is a place of joy and gladness

                                                    i.     There will be no more pain and sorrow

1.     That means no more headaches, stomach pains, sickness, and everything that’s much worse

B.    We will not see or hear other’s pain anymore

                                                    i.      Not only will we not feel pain but we will not see others hurting either

1.     Our joy will be extended further as we see others rejoicing

C.    We will not remember the hurt of this world

                                                    i.     We all have painful memories that come back from time to time

1.     There we will never remember those pains again

III.            Heaven is home (Hebrews 11:13-16)

A.    We are just strangers and pilgrims in this world

                                                    i.     We need to think of this world as a “work trip” for a job

1.     We do not pack our entire home and take it with us on a trip

2.     We do not invest time and money into our hotels

                                                   ii.     Our time and investments go into our permanent home (Heaven)

B.    Every one of us will leave this world just like everyone else (Psa 49:10-12)

IV.            Heaven is rest (Hebrews 4:9-11)

A.    After working for many years we retire and “cease” from work

                                                    i.     However, we still have things we must take care of around the house and other related duties

                                                   ii.     Heaven is a place where we retire permanently and never work again

B.    Our works from this world “follow” us (Revelation 14:13)

                                                    i.     There is nothing like a night’s rest after a long day at work

                                                   ii.     Picture an eternal rest after a life time of work

V.              Heaven is friends (Hebrews 12:22-24)

A.    Have you ever considered all the host of Heaven we will dwell with?

                                                    i.     The angels, Godhead, and Christians will all be there

B.    Friends are people we have things in common with and people we trust

                                                    i.     Can you imagine being surrounded by nothing but friends? (Prov 17:17)

VI.            Heaven is beauty (Revelation 4:1-3)

A.    The throne of God alone is described in such a beautiful way

B.    Heaven is described as being full of gold and precious gems (Rev 21:18-21)

                                                    i.     This is figurative to show us the beauty in a way we can understand

1.     However, this doesn’t even describe its full beauty

C.    Heaven is described as a city that is 225,000 square miles (Rev 21:16-17)

                                                    i.     Jacksonville, Florida is the largest city in terms of area in the US (not counting Alaska) at just short of 900 square miles

D.    The wall around Heaven is some 200 feet tall

                                                    i.     That is one large city of gold

VII.          Heaven is light (Revelation 21:22-27, cf. Psa 84:11, 1 John 1:5)

A.    There is no need for sun there because Jesus is the light

                                                    i.     Heaven is a place where no darkness nor the evils associated with it can ever come

B.    Can you imagine that moment when you meet Jesus face to face?

                                                    i.     What will you say?

VIII.        Heaven is eternal (Titus 1:2, cf. Ecc 12:5)

A.    If these 6 things are not enough just remember that all of them never end

                                                    i.     That means that we will be at home resting forever in a place full of friends, no sorrow, no darkness, and surrounded by unimaginable beauty and wealth

B.    Think of these things next time you sing that classic hymn

                                                    i.     Heaven will surely be worth it all
